EU establishes special ‘Human Rights in Film Award’ at Tbilisi International Film Festival

This Saturday, 10 December, will mark the end of the Tbilisi International Film Festival, which started on 4 December.

On the initiative of the EU Delegation to Georgia, this year’s film festival will add a special category to its regular awards, in which the EU will give its prize to the best human rights film. The ‘EU Human Rights in Film’ Award is established on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, which is marked on December 10. The winner will be symbolically announced on the same day, 10 December, at the closing ceremony of the festival.

Ten films have been nominated for this award. One of them is directed by a Ukrainian filmmaker (‘How is Katya’ by Christina Tynkevich, Ukraine), and two are made with the participation of Ukraine (‘Klondike’ by Maryna Er Gorbach, Ukraine/Turkey,) and Georgia (‘A Room of my Own’ by Ioseb (Soso) Bliadze, Georgia/Germany).

The festival takes place at the ‘Amirani’ cinema.
