EU disburses additional €2.5 billion in Macro-Financial Assistance to Ukraine

The European Commission today disbursed an additional €2.5 billion in Macro-Financial Assistance to Ukraine to ensure the country can continue to meet its short-term financing needs.

“Ukraine needs to pay pensions and keep essential public services such as hospitals and schools running,” says a tweet by the European Commission.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen reminded that the EU is also planning to provide Ukraine with funding of €18 billion for 2023, disbursed regularly during the year. “For urgent repairs and fast recovery leading to a successful reconstruction”, added von der Leyen.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed Ukraine had received the €2.5 billion tranche. “A strong contribution to the stability of Ukraine on the eve of a difficult winter. Grateful to the EU and von der Leyen for solidarity and support. Waiting for the approval of €18 billion macro-financial programme for 2023,” wrote Zelenskyy on Twitter.
