EU and US strengthen nuclear safety in Armenia

On 4 June, EU and American officials visited the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP). The visit was organised by the Armenian foreign ministry and the management of ANPP, showcasing EU-US support for nuclear safety.

This is highlighted through the recent commissioning of a $3.4 million full-scope simulator designed to enhance safe operations at ANPP, building on an earlier EU donation. Since 2024, the EU has allocated €17.9 million to Armenia to improve nuclear safety and radioactive waste management.

This allocation is part of ongoing cooperation under the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which includes support for aligning Armenia’s regulatory framework with EU nuclear safety standards. Through this, the EU remains committed to Armenia’s long-term energy security and transition.
