Energy efficiency: Moldova launches EU-supported programme for Moldovan SMEs to replace old equipment with new one

On 9 June, the ‘Business development organisation’ (ODA) in Moldova launched an ‘Energy Efficiency and Re-technology Programme’, developed with technical assistance from the European Union.

Under the new Programme, Moldovan SMEs will benefit from replacing inefficient equipment and machinery with modern technological solutions and will be able to optimise their production costs by implementing energy efficient measures. This, in the long term, will contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of SMEs.

Under the programme, priority will be given to agribusiness, livestock and agrotourism enterprises that seek to improve efficiency and optimise gas and electricity consumption by replacing old equipment with more energy efficient latest generation apparatus or installing alternative energy sources.

According to the EU Delegation to Moldova, the implementation of similar technology support programmes for SMEs in the European Union has shown that enterprises with better technological adaptation have a 15% higher growth rate than those without it. At the same time, SMEs that have implemented technological solutions and digital energy efficiency tools have generated 22% more revenue and created twice as many jobs.
