Community Resilience Centre opens in Nizhyn, Ukraine, with  EU, UNDP and UNFPA support

In Nizhyn, in the Chernihiv Oblast of Ukraine, a ‘Place of Strength’ community resilience centre has been launched.

The centre was established with support from UNFPA and UNDP, as part of the ‘EU4Recovery – Empowering Communities in Ukraine’ project, funded by the European Union. The total cost of the initiative amounted to over US$125,000.

The Centre will host seminars and training sessions aimed at enhancing resilience and improving mental health, with a particular focus on youth and families affected by the war. These activities will provide support to families who have experienced separation, loss or forced displacement, helping them to adapt to new living conditions.

The Centre will also serve as a hub for initiatives intended to increase community security and environmental awareness. Additionally, young people will have the opportunity to participate in training on building healthy relationships, and take part in day camps, where they will work through war-related traumatic experiences and develop essential life skills. 

The Centre will facilitate activities designed to strengthen connections between local and displaced youth, supporting their integration and the development of youth leadership, and deepening mutual understanding within the community.
