Coalition of the Willing: Ursula von der Leyen calls for more pressure on Russia and a just peace for Ukraine

The fourth meeting of the ‘Coalition of the Willing’, aiming to support Ukraine, was “another demonstration of European unity”, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said following the meeting in Paris, held on 27 March, adding that the coalition became “bigger, stronger and very determined”.

The Coalition of the Willing, as it is known, is a coalition of 31 countries which have pledged strengthened support for Ukraine against Russian aggression. The EU also takes part in the Coalition’s meetings.

The meeting in Paris discussed financial and military support to Ukraine, sanctions against Russia and the EU Readiness 2030 plan.

“In making the Ukrainian Armed Forces the best security guarantee to defend their country. Today and in the long term,” she said.

Concerning the sanctions against Russia, Ursula von der Leyen said: “Keep up the pressure on Russia. It was very clear that the sanctions stay in place. What we want is a just and lasting peace agreement. That is the goal.”
