This week, the European Parliament, the European Commission and the European External Action Service jointly host the Belarus Days in Brussels: a series of events in support of the Belarusian people.
The Belarus days are organised ahead of the so-called presidential elections in January 2025, which are “regretfully expected to be neither free nor fair”, said a press release by the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission.
The week-long event is organised to demonstrate the EU’s continued commitment to the Belarusian people and showcases EU support for Belarusian culture. A series of events will take place alongside the 4th meeting of the EU Consultative Group with Belarusian democratic forces and civil society. It will include a high-level conference in the European Parliament, a musical evening featuring Belarusian artists, as well as other cultural events devoted to political prisoners and celebrating Belarusian culture, identity, language and heritage.
A wide range of authorities and stakeholders will take part, including European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, leader of the Belarusian democratic forces Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, members of the Brussels-based diplomatic corps, members of the European Parliament, as well as think tank representatives and the media.
The full programme of the Belarus Days is available online.
