Moldova hands back completed EU questionnaire

On 22 April, Moldovan President Maja Sandu and Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița handed over the completed EU questionnaire to the head of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, Janis Mažeiks.

The questionnaire, which forms a starting point for the EU to decide on Moldova’s membership, was handed  to the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Nicu Popescu, by European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi on 11 April.

During today’s ceremony in Chisinau, Janis Mažeiks noted that the questionnaire was completed in just 11 days: “This speed clearly shows the determination of the President and the government and the whole of the Moldovan people to do the utmost to bring your country to the European family as quickly as possible.”

The ambassador said the questionnaire would be handed over to EU headquarters, where it would be analysed. On the basis of this analysis, the European Commission will publish its opinion on Moldova’s application.
