Human rights in focus in EU-Moldova dialogue

October 14, 2021

On 13 October, the EU and the Republic of Moldova held the twelfth round of their annual Human Rights Dialogue with discussions on a wide range of issues, from developments in the EU’s human rights policy, to democracy and electoral rights, human rights in the justice system, implementation of labour standards, media freedom, rights of the child, and gender equality.

Special focus was placed on the need for thorough reform of the media environment, the need for decisive efforts to bring the conditions of detentions in line with international standards, and the importance of further strengthening the legal framework for equality and non-discrimination.

The Human Rights Dialogue followed the meeting on 12 October of the EU-Moldova sub-committee on justice, freedom and security, which discussed cooperation in a wide range of areas, including the rule of law and justice reform, prevention and fight against corruption, anti-money laundering and financing of terrorism, prevention and fight against organised crime, cooperation on migration, asylum and border management, as well as protection of personal data.
