Opinion poll shows broadly positive views of EU in Armenia, rising support for accession

Public attitudes toward the EU in Armenia remain broadly positive, with 72% describing relations as good, and 56% trusting the EU, more than any other international actor,  according to the 2026 annual survey of opinion in Armenia.

The survey was conducted in February/March 2026 and involved face-to-face interviews with a representative sample of 1,000 people across the country. The opinion polls have been carried out annually by the EUNEIGHBOURS east Programme in Armenia and the five other countries of the Eastern Partnership since 2016.

This year’s survey also found that 45% of citizens have a positive image of the EU, while 30% are neutral and 14% have no opinion, with just 11% having a negative opinion.

Most Armenians support EU membership – 54%, up 9 percentage points compared to 2025 –  while 23% oppose and a sizeable share remain neutral (16%) or undecided (7%); 63% believe EU membership would bring more advantages than disadvantages.

Expectations focus on practical benefits but remain mixed: citizens associate EU membership with mobility, employment and security, while concerns about accession relate mainly to relations with Russia and emigration.

The EU is recognised as a key financial supporter, but attribution remains limited: 61% rate EU support as high or moderate, yet only 17% identify the EU as the largest contributor.

Armenians would like the EU to play a greater role in strengthening the country’s defence (25%), in education and lifelong learning (23%), and agriculture and rural development (19%).
