Senior EU official discusses key priorities in Yerevan ahead of first EU-Armenia summit

On 18 February, Gert Jan Koopman, Head of the The Directorate-General for Enlargement and the Eastern Neighbourhood (DG ENEST), visited Armenia ahead of the first EU-Armenia summit and the visit by EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, planned for 19-20 March. Regional connectivity in transport, energy, and digital links, was the key focus of the discussions.

The visit aimed to assess progress in the implementation of the new Strategic Agenda for the EU-Armenia Partnership, which builds on the foundations of the long-term EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

Particular attention was given to supporting the ‘Crossroads of Peace’ initiative of the Government of Armenia and delivering it in synergy with the EU Cross-Regional Connectivity Agenda. The parties discussed options for EU support for jointly identified priority projects, with economic sustainability and the creation of new opportunities for trade and mobility identified as areas of common interest.

The final design of the package of reforms and investments under the Resilience and Growth Plan for Armenia was also confirmed with the Armenian government, including its second instalment of €202.5 million, previously announced by Commissioner Marta Kos during her visit in September 2025.
