On 18 July, the EU and the United States officially welcomed eight new member countries, including Ukraine, to the Minerals Security Partnership (MSP) Forum.
The MSP Forum is a new platform for cooperation in the field of critical raw materials (CRMs) vital for the green and digital transition. The Forum’s objective is to forge partnerships with resource-rich countries and countries with high demand for these resources, to explore mutually beneficial projects.
The welcoming event was the first major convening of its 23 member countries since the Forum was launched in April 2024.
“Critical raw materials are essential for a wide range of technologies needed by the EU’s strategic sectors, such as net zero industry, digital, space and defence, and the MSP Forum will help to create new, secure and sustainable supply chains of these CRMs, in partnership with MSP Forum members,” the European Commission said in a press release.
The event, co-hosted by the EU and the US, focused on the Forum’s two main areas of work, namely project development and policy dialogue.
