EU to help Ukraine to repair Druzhba pipeline

The European Union has offered Ukraine technical support and funding to repair the Druzhba oil pipeline, which was damaged by a Russian strike on 27 January, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa said in a joint statement today.

“We and our teams have engaged in intense discussions with Member States and Ukraine at all levels to repair and restore the flow of oil to Hungary and Slovakia,” the top EU officials said. “The EU has offered Ukraine technical support and funding. The Ukrainians have welcomed and accepted this offer. European experts are available immediately.”

They also said the European Commission would continue to work with the concerned parties on alternative routes for the transit of non-Russian crude oil to the countries of Central and Eastern Europe to ensure energy security for all European citizens.
