EU-supported population and housing census starts in Moldova

On 8 April, the population and housing census started in the Republic of Moldova and will last until 7 July. This is the third population census since the country’s independence.

Around 4,000 interviewers will visit citizens’ homes to collect data on the population and its characteristics (age, gender, ethnicity, education level, occupation, etc.), and housing and living conditions (connection to sewerage and water supply systems, heating, etc).

This time, the European Union supported Moldova with the census, providing €2 million and 3,000 tablets for data collection. Thanks to this, for the first time in the history of the census, modern information technologies will be used in Moldova, which will ensure greater transparency and speed of data collection.

“The EU encourages Moldovan citizens to be open and participate in the study, as the results of the census will help define policies and direction for the country’s development on its European path,” the EU Delegation to Moldova said in a post on Facebook.
