EU allocates €1 billion to Ukraine’s defence industry

The European Union will provide Ukraine’s defence industry with €1 billion, EU High Representative Kaja Kallas said, visiting Ukraine on 9 May to celebrate Europe day.

“This is where innovation is made and where we can help Ukraine the most,” Kaja Kallas said.

This funding will directly support Ukrainian defence companies and secure additional military aid over the coming months.

She also called “a very important signal” the establishment of a Special Tribunal for the crimes of aggression “to ensure that those responsible for aggression against Ukraine are held accountable”. The Tribunal will be established within the framework of the Council of Europe.

“Every inch of Russia’s war has been documented. It leaves no room for doubt. And no room for impunity,” Kaja Kallas posted on X.

Kaja Kallas also announced that the EU was working on the 17th sanctions package, which could already be adopted at the next Foreign Affairs Council on 20 May.
