Energy Community: Ukraine signals its dedication to EU electricity market coupling

By adopting draft Law No.12087-d, Ukraine took a first step toward the transposition of the Electricity Integration Package and moved closer to legislative requirements of integrating its electricity markets with the EU ahead of accession, the Energy Community Secretariat announced on 8 April.

Earlier this week, Parliament adopted draft Law No. 12087-d, thereby partially transposing the Electricity Integration Package – a series of nine legal acts paving the way for participation in the EU’s Single Day-Ahead Coupling (SDAC) and Single Intraday Coupling (SIDC).

Once it has completed the adoption of the secondary legislation in full compliance with the EU acquis, Ukraine will be able to initiate the compliance verification process, as a necessary precondition for proceeding with market coupling.

Currently, three Energy Community Contracting Parties – Serbia, Moldova, and Montenegro – have notified the full transposition of the Electricity Integration Package and are at various stages of the verification process.

The Energy Community, co-chaired by the European Commission, is an international organisation bringing together the EU and nine neighbouring EU candidate or potential candidate countries, to create an integrated regional energy market based on a legally binding framework.
