On the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy, the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan commemorated the memory of the victims.
The Khojaly massacre took place on 26 February 1992. It was a mass killing of Azerbaijani civilians by Armenian forces and the 366th Guards Motor Rifle Regiment, a motor rifle unit of the United Armed Forces of the Commonwealth of Independent States, in the town of Khojaly. This event is considered the largest massacre in the entire period of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
“The European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan honours the memory of the innocent victims – women, men, children, and the elderly – who lost their lives during the Khojaly tragedy,” the Delegation said in a Facebook post. “It extends its sincere condolences to all those who lost their loved ones and homes and underlines the importance of reconciliation and lasting peace to prevent such tragedies from ever happening again.”
