Solidarity for Health Initiative: EU and WHO to support Azerbaijan in mental health field

The European Union and the World Health Organization (WHO), within their joint ‘Solidarity for Health Initiative’, funded by the EU, will support the increase in the number of psychologists and social workers in Azerbaijan.

Psychologists and social workers, hired as part of the project, will operate in the long-term mental health stationary services – at the Republican Psychiatric Hospital №1 (Mashtaga settlement) and Psychoneurological Social Service Institution №1 (Buzovna settlement).

Interested professionals are invited to apply by 22 July.

Since late 2020, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, WHO Azerbaijan trained 98 mental health and psychosocial support professionals, with funding mainly from EU’s ‘Solidarity for Health Initiative’. More than 50 of them participated in the training programmes and are currently training their peers in the country. More than 30 professionals were funded to join the online training programmes at Columbia University and Queen Margaret University.
