Heroes of Dark Times: online exhibition dedicated to political prisoners in Belarus

April 14, 2022

From 11 April to 6 May 2022, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) website is hosting an online photo exhibition dedicated to the political prisoners of the Lukashenka regime in Belarus.

A series of 32 photographs entitled ‘Heroes of Dark Times’ highlights violations of human rights and freedom of expression by the Belarusian authorities, with more than 1,100 recognised political prisoners currently in Belarus. The exhibition also aims to raise global awareness of the dangers of an authoritarian system.

The aggression of Russia against Ukraine and the Lukashenka regime’s involvement will not hide the political and human rights situation in Belarus. The EU continues to raise its voice against the human rights violations in the country and aims to ensure accountability for those responsible,” said the EU Ambassador to Belarus Dirk Schuebel at the launch event.
