Georgia: Ambassador Hartzell meets green EU initiatives in Gori

EU Ambassador to Georgia Carl Hartzell has travelled to Gori to visit several green initiatives, supported by the EU and implemented by the Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN).

The Ambassador met young activists at the Innovation Knowledge Hub and discussed with them social campaigns and green economic initiatives planned in Gori.

He also visited the ‘Leader’ sewing social enterprise, one of the first companies in the region to have developed a textile waste recycling strategy. Currently, it recycles two tons of textile per month, which otherwise would have gone to waste. The company was supported by the EU under the ‘EU4Youth Social Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Development’ (SEED) project and within the EU4Business programme.

Carl Hartzell highlighted that the European Union focuses on working together with local businesses to help improve their work, develop new ideas and create new jobs: “The projects I visited today, together with CENN, are excellent examples of these endeavours, including to improve the labour market for people from vulnerable groups.”
