Water Supply and Sanitation in Rural and Semi Urban Communities of Adjara

Project Description
The EU is committed to support Georgia in its efforts towards environmental sustainability and improved living conditions in rural areas.

This project increases access to improved and sustainable water supply and wastewater treatment in the semi-urban and rural areas of Adjara region. It covers all district municipalities in Adjara – Keda, Khulo, Khelvachauri, Shuakhevi and Kobuleti. It creates water and wastewater supply system all municipalities.
The project works in two main directions:
- Centralised water supply and wastewater systems in settlements and decentralised water supply and wastewater systems outside the settlements in the villages
- Decentralised water supply in the villages - small (micro) water supply systems, adequate intake from spring, well or surface water, disinfection, small reservoir and adequate house connections.

Appropriate wastewater systems will be introduced to citizens in the villages. This includes toilets, house connections and decentralized, small wastewater treatment plants or other appropriate wastewater treatment and disposal systems, such as separation toilets, composting and farm use of sludge.

The project is based on very active participation of all citizens. Every citizen can participate in community meetings, ask questions, request information and explain the specific situation of the village and family to make sure their needs are properly understood and solutions are developed.

The program is designed for all interested citizens in rural Adjara. Participation in the program depends on the interest and voluntary joining of the village citizens in the program.
