Media, Justice, and Social Cohesion for Ukraine

Project Description
The project works to strengthen information integrity and justice in Ukraine. Through training, workshops, learning-by-doing and additional accountability efforts, it equips journalists, civil society actors, and the general public with the tools to recognize and counteract disinformation. It also urges accountability for violations of international law while helping survivors take control of their own narratives.

Training imparts the skills to critically assess narratives, identify propaganda, and promote fact-based reporting. Targeted media campaigns and investigative journalism then apply skills to expose and dismantle false narratives, particularly around issues like the forced deportation of Ukrainian children. TRP’s legal team will also analyze obligations with respect to creating, spreading and amplifying disinformation, and use relevant data from TRP’s archive to submit complaints to domestic and international accountability mechanisms (e.g., United Nations and European Union-based bodies). Lastly, support for torture survivors will help them advocate for redress in fora like the 2027 Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Strengthening survivors’ connections and advocacy skills aims to amplify their voices and priorities for holding perpetrators accountable.
Specific Objective
The overarching objective of this action is to combat Russian disinformation, amplify truth-based narratives, and advance accountability for violations of international law committed in Ukraine. In pursuit of this goal, TRP will empower the media community, support legal accountability efforts, and amplify the voices of victims and survivors.

Specific objectives of the action:
1) Equip media community with effective instruments and skills to counteract Russian propaganda and disinformation;
2) To counter Russian propaganda and disinformation about its violations of international law in Ukraine by producing high-quality media content;
3) Advance accountability by preparing legal submissions to domestic and international bodies on violations by Russia and Russia-affiliated individuals, thus countering Russian propaganda and disinformation;
4) Advance international advocacy for accountability by empowering victim communities.
Expected Results
1) 7 journalists from Ukraine and surrounding Central and Eastern European (incl. South Caucasus) countries are trained;
2) At least 1 legal analysis on countering Russian propaganda and 2 evidentiary products detailing violations of international law are prepared and submitted to relevant domestic or international mechanisms;
3) Media campaigns to increase media literacy are completed;
4) 5 groups of war-affected survivors are identified and supported in releasing 5 advocacy statements that promote accountability;
5) 1 advocacy engagement and symposium are conducted.
