On 31 December, Italy allocated €13 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, managed by the Energy Community Secretariat, co-chaired by the European Commission.
Italy’s contribution – one of the largest by a single country – will help to stabilise electricity supplies to millions of war-affected Ukrainians at a time when Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure are intensifying.
“With this contribution, Italy confirms its continued support for the resilience of Ukraine’s energy sector, also in view of the Ukraine Recovery Conference to be held in Rome next July,” says a press release by the Energy Community Secretariat.
Earlier in December, Poland contributed PLN 13.5 million (more than €3.15 million) to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund to enable Ukraine to repair the severe damage inflicted on its energy system in the past year and most recently.
The Fund, supported by contributions from governments, international organisations, and corporate donors, plays a crucial role in providing immediate assistance to repair critical energy infrastructure. Administered by the Energy Community Secretariat in cooperation with Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy, the UESF has attracted more than €1 billion from 30 international donors, including six companies and non-state organisations.
