G7 agrees to increase delivery of air defence capacities to Ukraine

The G7 has agreed to increase the delivery of air defence capacities, additional systems and interceptors, and long-range capabilities, and to support Ukraine’s energy resilience.

The G7 summit took place in Evian, France, from 16  to 17 June. The President of the European Council, António Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, represented the EU. The G7 leaders were joined by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during their session dedicated to peacebuilding and security for Ukraine and Europe.

The EU leaders confirmed their “unwavering support for Ukraine in defending its freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.”

The G7 leaders also committed to increasing the pressure on the Russian war economy, and in particular by strengthening their sanctions, including those on the oil and gas sectors.

The leaders also agreed to provide further support to Ukraine to get the country through next winter.
