Belarus: ambassadors of EU countries meet relatives of political prisoners

On 19 October, heads of diplomatic missions of EU member states, as well as the US, the UK, and Switzerland met in Minsk with family members of Belarusian political prisoners.

As of 20 October 2021, human rights defenders have recognised 812 people as political prisoners in Belarus. Some of the prisoners are reported to have developed serious or life-threatening medical conditions or have become targets of particularly harsh arbitrary treatment behind bars.

“The transatlantic community of nations continues to call for the immediate release of all arbitrarily detained persons in Belarus, including political prisoners,” the EU Delegation addressed Belarus on Facebook.
