Despoina has a multicultural background; she was born and raised in Greece and studied in Germany, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands. Therefore, she is a firm believer in intercultural communication and cooperation. She has an academic background in political science, sociology, and European Governance. Her academic and personal expertise lies in youth participation and empowerment. She was the youth delegate of Greece at the Council of Local and Regional Authorities and a panellist at the World Forum for Democracy at the Council of Europe. Despoina has experience in Model United Nations conferences as a member of the Dais, organiser and participant. She has been part of the Young European Ambassadors initiative since 2018.

It is part of the larger Neighbourhood Communication Programme (2020-2024) for the EU's Eastern and Southern Neighbourhood, which also includes 'EU NEIGHBOURS south’ project that runs the EU Neighbours portal.
