ShiNE: Supporting CSOs and media organizations to boost the greeN agenda and circular Economy in the Southeastern region of North Macedonia.
Project Description
The ShiNE project supports the green transition in the South-Eastern region of North Macedonia by strengthening the role of civil society organisations and media in promoting renewable energy, environmental protection and circular economy practices. The project focuses on municipalities affected by climate change, air pollution and energy poverty, while also recognising their strong potential for renewable energy development.
Through awareness-raising, advocacy and practical actions, the project promotes sustainable solar heating systems and reduced dependence on fossil fuels. Local CSOs and media organisations are supported to improve environmental monitoring, engage citizens and advocate for greener local policies.
The project also invests in youth engagement and education by training 60 young environmental activists on circular economy, renewable energy and sustainable heating solutions. Additional activities include installation of air quality monitoring devices in schools and public buildings, environmental assessments, feasibility studies for solar energy use, and support for green entrepreneurship and community-led environmental initiatives.
By combining education, innovation, advocacy and community participation, ShiNE contributes to improved environmental and social well-being and encourages long-term sustainable development in the targeted municipalities.
