Moldova: police station renovated with EU support opens in Edineț

A police station in the Moldovan town of Edineț, renovated with EU support, was inaugurated last week.

The inauguration was attended by EU Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Janis Mažeiks, together with the Minister of Internal Affairs Ana Revenco.

The police station will employ eight officers, responsible for three localities in Edinet municipality, Edineț itself, Alexăndreni and Gordineștii Noi villages, with a total population of about 20,000 people.

The office of the police unit is a modular structure, which ensures greater transparency in the work. There is office space, including an ‘open space’ type of office, a conference room, an office for confidential hearings, and comfortable areas for staff and visitors.

The police station was renovated as part of the EU’s ‘Budget Support for Police Reform’ programme. The total cost of the works was about 3.1 million lei.
