Armenia: ‘50 Women with Disabilities Who Changed the World’

The book ’50 Women with Disabilities Who Changed the World’ has been launched in Armenia in the framework of an EU-funded project. The presentation was timed to coincide with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3 December.

The event took place in the framework of the project ‘Addressing Gender-Based Sex Selection and Related Harmful Practices in the South Caucasus: Support to Regional, National and South-South Interventions”, implemented by the UNFPA and funded by the European Union.

Frank Hess, Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Armenia, who attended the presentation, said the EU had supported the government’s reform efforts, especially following the adoption of the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities by the Armenian parliament on 5 May 2021.

“Civil society has an important role to play in its implementation and the EU supports the Coalition for Inclusive Legal Reform led by AGATE, which has been able to create a dynamic that brings together all stakeholders, disability organisations, grassroots associations, social workers, lawyers, education and health workers, employers, administration, social, economic and political leaders around this inclusive project,” said Hess.
