Regional strategic communication programme for the Western Balkans (WeBalkans)

Project Description

The Regional Strategic Communication Programme for the Western Balkans is designed to help people better understand the EU's role in their region. It highlights how EU policies, investments, and values impact everyday life, from infrastructure projects to education and business opportunities.

The programme runs communication campaigns, works with local media, and engages young people through the Young European Ambassadors network. It also tackles disinformation and ensures accurate information about EU accession reaches the public.

Digital tools and opinion polls help shape effective messaging, while partnerships with influencers and journalists boost outreach. The goal is to make EU support more visible, encourage informed discussions, and build stronger connections between the Western Balkans and the EU.
Specific Objective

• Making the EU’s Role More Visible – The programme helps people in the Western Balkans better understand how the EU supports their region, from funding infrastructure and education to driving economic growth. It highlights real-life benefits of EU policies and investments.
• Fighting Disinformation & Encouraging Engagement – With so much misinformation about the EU, the programme ensures people have access to clear, fact-based information about EU support and what accession really means. It works with journalists, influencers, and young leaders, such as the Young European Ambassadors, to spark meaningful public debate.
• Listening to Public Opinion – Through regular surveys and opinion polls, the programme tracks how people in the Western Balkans feel about the EU. These insights help fine-tune communication efforts to ensure messages are relevant and engaging.
• Helping the EU Communicate Better – By improving digital tools and messaging, the programme supports EU Delegations and DG NEAR in making their communication more effective and accessible, ensuring EU-funded projects get the visibility they deserve.
• Strengthening the EU-Western Balkans Connection – Whether through campaigns, media outreach, or grassroots engagement, the programme helps build trust and stronger ties between the EU and the people of the Western Balkans, making European integration feel more real and relatable.
