EU in Moldova to conduct Medieval Cultural Festival in Soroca fortress this weekend

The EU Delegation to Moldova invites the public to the Medieval Cultural Festival ‘Soroca – Porți deschise’, which will take place on 16-17 December at the Soroca Fortress. This event will be an opportunity to discover the medieval cultural heritage of Moldova.

The festival will feature medieval theatre performances, medieval music and dances, reenactments of medieval battles, demonstrations of traditional handicrafts and an exhibition of medieval cultural products and emblems.

The festival programme will also include a display of medieval costumes, archery competitions, master classes and screenings of historical films, drawing contests on medieval themes, etc.

Soroca Fortress is currently in the second phase of restoration, supported by a contribution from the EU of 90 per cent of the total cost, exceeding €1.6 million. The first phase of restoration was carried out within the cross-border project ‘Medieval Jewels: Fortresses of Khotin, Soroca, Suceava’, also funded by the EU, in 2013-2015.
