Ukraine: EU4Gender Equality Reform Helpdesk highlights new gender challenges related to war

A press conference on “Gender Equality in Ukraine: Current Trends and New Challenges” last week offered a platform to discuss new gender challenges related to the war, the compliance of Ukraine’s gender equality policy with EU standards, and gender-transformative policy making.

The event was organised by the EU4Gender Equality Reform Helpdesk project, in partnership with the Office of the Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, and the Office of the Government Commissioner for Gender Equality Policy of Ukraine.

Participants discussed gender equality in Ukraine’s recovery process, the gender dimension of the Ukraine Facility Plan, and Ukraine’s National Strategy to decrease the gender pay gap. They also discussed:

·  EU gender equality priorities enshrined in the EU Gender Action Plan (GAP III), as well as the process of updating the Country Level Implementation Plan (CLIP) and localising GAP III priorities.

·  Ukraine Country Gender Profile as an analytical tool for gender mainstreaming in government and EU Delegation strategic documents.

Experts of the EU4Gender Equality Reform Helpdesk presented the Country Gender Profile of Ukraine, updated by the Helpdesk for 2023. The profile is an analytical tool intended to support gender mainstreaming in the process of reform, development and recovery in Ukraine.

Press conference participants included Government Commissioner for Gender Equality Policy Kateryna Levchenko, Darya Andriunina, Head of the Labour Migration Unit at the Department of Labour and Employment, Tetyana Shulga, Coordinator of the Culture, Human Rights and Gender Equality Sector at the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Oksana Kisselyova, EU4Gender Equality Reform Helpdesk Team Leader and Mykhailo Koriukalov, Reform Helpdesk expert.

More than 300 people – including civil servants from central executive bodies, local state administrations and other stakeholders – followed the press conference on YouTube.
