New EBRD podcast confronts world’s biggest economic fears

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has released a new podcast, ‘Fearonomics’, which aims to help overcome fears about the global economy by analysing the latest economic data, debunking myths and defining the risks to watch out for.

According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), even before the war on Ukraine and the pandemic, 690 million people, or nine per cent of the world’s population, were already facing food insecurity and hunger. Now that the food price index has reached an all-time high, the consequences could be very serious, from rising prices to social riots.

Is there any way to avoid the catastrophe? Jonathan Charles, EBRD’s Managing Director of Communications, discusses the issue with Sergei Guriev, EBRD former Chief Economist and professor of economics at Science Po, and Beata Javorcik, the EBRD’s Chief Economist and also professor of Economics at Oxford University.
