Moldova: EU-funded conservation of Chisinau circus building begins

A construction company selected following a tender announced by the UNDP has started repairing the roof of the Chisinau circus. The works will be funded by the European Union.

The circus building in Chisinau has a special architectural value, and in 2022 it was included in the State Register of Protected Monuments.

Restoration work in this first phase could be completed by the end of 2023, depending on weather conditions and the supply of construction materials, which has been affected by the multiple crises in the region.

At the same time, UNDP is in the process of selecting a company to carry out work on the replacement of the glazed façade of Block A of the Chisinau Circus.

The European Union, through the UNDP Confidence Building Measures programme, has allocated over €1.8 million  for detailed technical expertise, design and repair and maintenance works in the first phase. This will prevent the deterioration of the circus building due to external factors.

The total cost of all the conservation work for the entire complex is estimated at more than €11,000,000.
