European Union Advisory Mission starts community safety dialogue in Chernivtsi region

On Thursday 22 September, representatives of the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) in Ukraine launched the Community Security Dialogue initiative in the Chernivtsi region – the first where such an initiative has been implemented since the start of a full-scale Russian military invasion on 24 February.

Representatives of civil society organisations, state authorities and law enforcement agencies discussed how to alleviate problems for communities in the Chernivtsi region, including the more than 100,000 internally displaced people who have settled here.

“During the war the need for a dialogue between civil society and law enforcement is more important than ever. We have to have the tools against hybrid warfare and corruption threats that undermine society,” said EUAM’s Acting Head of Operations, Jesse Seppala. ”Transparency is very important for good governance – an essential step of Ukraine’s gradual EU accession.”
