EU4Moldova: EU to support four infrastructure projects in Cahul and Ungheni with €1.5 million

The European Union is providing €1.5 million for the creation and upgrading of infrastructure to attract investment in the Cahul and Ungheni regions. 

Grants between €200,000 and €550,000 through the ‘EU4Moldova: Focal Regions’ programme, implemented by UNDP and UNICEF, will support four initiatives in the two regions.

A technology centre for innovation and production will be set up in Sculeni, and an industrial hub will be renovated in Ungheni. A regional agri-food market will be built in Cahul and the local business development centre in the village of Crihana Veche will benefit from development works and improved road access.

“The projects selected for EU funding will further enhance the development of Cahul and Ungheni regions and improve the lives of citizens through access to quality services, modern infrastructure and more jobs”, Jānis Mažeiks, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, said at the ceremony handing over the certificates of financial support, held on 24 January.

The programme ‘EU4Moldova: Focal Regions’ (2019-2024) supports smart, inclusive and sustainable social-economic development in the Cahul and Ungheni regions to ensure a better quality of life for citizens. The programme has a total budget of €23 million, is funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
