EU united in solidarity with the people of Ukraine

The Ambassadors of the EU and its Member States today laid flowers at the Wall of Remembrance for fallen defenders of Ukraine in Kyiv, marking the day of unity declared by Ukraine.

“While Russia is attempting to unilaterally redefine the security architecture in Europe and undermine its fundamental principles, this day becomes a powerful symbol of the consolidating power of unity – to promote resilience, strengthen freedom and cherish hope,” the EU Delegation to Ukraine said in a statement.

“We remain in Kyiv and continue to operate together with Ukraine, both on the political track and on ensuring the country’s macro-financial stability.”

In a video message of solidarity with Ukrainians, EU Ambassador Matti Maasikas later joined Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna to underline the EU’s support:

“Russia’s pressure on Ukraine – military, economic, psychological – is unacceptable… This undermines the core principles on which European security is built. The violation of these principles would threaten peace and stability not only in Ukraine but in Europe as a whole,” the EU Ambassador said. “We all have to do our bit to stay calm and combat foreign information manipulation and interference. Russia is waging a war of nerves – so we have to keep ours.”
