EU supports rebuilding of schools and hospitals in liberated Kyiv region

On 23 March, the European Union signed an agreement with the Makariv Municipal Council (in the Bucha district of the Kyiv region) on the rebuilding and reconstruction of public buildings damaged or destroyed by Russia’s large-scale aggression against Ukraine.

The project, worth over €15.7 million, will focus on the construction of two kindergartens, and rehabilitation of two hospital sites and a school in Makariv.

The construction will be funded by the European Union under the ‘Housing for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and Rehabilitation of Liberated Cities in Ukraine’ programme.

According to the EU Ambassador to Ukraine, Matti Maasikas, the programme will help build IDP housing and refurbish social infrastructure in Makariv, Lviv, Chernivtsi, Zhytomyr, Kovel, Dubno, and other municipalities, for an overall amount of €100 million.

“Since the start of the full-scale war, the EU has mobilised a total of about €67 billion for Ukraine and Ukrainians – to help them fight, to help them protect their vulnerable and to help them rebuild. To help them win,” said Matti Maasikas during his visit to Makarіv.

Newly built and reconstructed facilities will meet the latest technical requirements and criteria for energy efficiency and environmental friendliness, will be comfortable and friendly for visitors and residents.
