EU Anti-Corruption Initiative: partner city Mariupol tops Transparency International Ukraine rankings

The partner city of the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative (EUACI), Mariupol, has taken first place in two Transparency International Ukraine rankings: in the Transparency Rating 2020 (100 Ukrainian cities) and in the Accountability Rating 2020 (50 cities).

Within the framework of its Integrity Cities project, the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative provides assistance to the Ukrainian cities of Mariupol, Zhytomyr, Nikopol, Chervonohrad, and Chernivtsi. The other cities have also significantly improved their ratings.

The Transparency International Ukraine experts noted that cities’ transparency and accountability do not depend on their size or region. The main factor in implementing the changes is the proactive position of local governments.

The EU Anti-Corruption Initiative is a comprehensive EU anti-corruption programme in Ukraine financed by the EU and Denmark and implemented by the Foreign Ministry of Denmark.
