Energy-efficient modernisation of health facilities to be implemented in Moldova

Medical institutions in four districts of the Republic of Moldova will be modernised with the financial support of the European Union and Team Europe.

The district hospitals in Floresti, Ialoveni, Nisporeni, the polyclinic in Telenesti, and several family medicine centres in all four districts will be renovated.

The work will include replacing the heating system, insulating heating pipes, walls, floors and roofs, upgrading ventilation and lighting systems, and replacing doors and windows. Solar panels will also be installed, which will partially cover the energy consumption of the buildings.

The total estimated cost of the energy efficiency improvement works in the health facilities is €2.1 million. Of this, €620,000 is a grant from the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P) fund, whose largest contributors are the European Union and Sweden, €1.3 million is a loan from Nefco and €215,000 is contributions from local authorities in the four districts.

The renovated buildings will improve healthcare services for some 26,000 patients annually.
