EU Special Representative visits Armenia


On September 13-14, European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia, Toivo Klaar, paid a visit to Armenia.

He met Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, as well as other officials and representatives of civil society and the diplomatic corps.

Toivo Klaar also paid a visit to the border area of Yeraskh in Ararat Province and got acquainted with the situation on the ground. He discussed the situation in the region and European Union’s readiness to contribute to regional peace.

The Representative underlined the importance of limiting negative rhetoric, resolving remaining humanitarian issues, de-escalation, building new interconnections, as well as the need for a comprehensive settlement in order to achieve a stable, secure and prosperous South Caucasus. In Yeraskh, he said that there is a need to reduce tensions in order to create a better climate for negotiations.
