Commissioner Johansson visits Moldova: cooperation with EU and Ukrainian refugees in focus


On 12 May, European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson travelled to Moldova to discuss the challenges in supporting those fleeing the war in Ukraine. 

The Commissioner met Moldovan President Maia Sandu and  Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița to discuss Moldova’s close cooperation with the EU and the situation at the Moldova-Romania border. 

Ilva Johansson visited the Leuseni border crossing, where she met with Frontex border guards to discuss the support the agency is providing to Moldovan border guards in managing the border and protecting people fleeing from Ukraine from human trafficking and child sexual abuse. 

The Commissioner also attended the opening of the new premises of the EU Delegation in Chisinau.
