MEASURES TO TACKLE CORONAVIRUS

The COVID-19 pandemic, which began to spread in 2019, had its impact on Azerbaijan. For a period, it separated families. The socio-economic situation worsened. People were compelled to live under challenging conditions. Many people lost relatives and friends, but despite the difficulties, they had to move on with their lives and work.

About Aziz Karimov

Aziz Karimov is a documentary photographer based in Baku, primarily focusing on social issues and human rights. In 2013, his work was included in the 20 best pictures of the year in the competition conducted by the international human rights organisation Freedom House. In 2013, he received the "Press Photography of the Year” award from the Azerbaijan Photographers’ Union. In a contest held in 2015, funded by the European Union and led by BBC Media Action, he was awarded the BBC Journalism Award.

In 2015, he took part in the Yarat Summer School with Magnum Photography (Thomaz Dworzak, Chien-Chi Chang) and photographer David Montgomery, an experience that played a major role in his work. Aziz Karimov has done social and political work for various outlets such as Reuters, AP, Anadolu Images, BBC, Radio Liberty and Getty Images. In August 2020, Aziz Karimov received the "Free Media Awards 2020”.
