Borrell pays tribute to Belarusians protecting against war

EU High Representative Josep Borrell has paid tribute to Belarusians protesting against Russia’s war in Ukraine and their government’s support of it.

In a video message on 1 March, he said: “Your peaceful country is dragged into an outrageous war against your brother nation in Ukraine.”

“Hundreds of you were arrested on Sunday for peacefully protesting against Russia’s war in Ukraine. And I have to thank you for your bravery. And I have to thank you for not watching this tragedy in silence and continuing to ask your government to stop this war.”

“Many of you took huge personal risks struggling for a free and democratic Belarus. Now you are raising your voice against Russia’s war on Ukraine and Lukashenka’s decision to support it. Thank you for your bravery. EU stands with you,” Borrell said on Twitter.
