EU officials join Ukrainian volunteers on #EUBeachCleanup campaign

On 23 September, senior representatives of the European Union and the UN Development Programme joined more than 50 volunteers and activists to clean up the coastline on the Sea of Azov, in Prymorsk, as part of the #EUBeachCleanup annual global campaign.

This year’s #EUBeachCleanup campaign is linked to the UN conference on biological diversity to take place in October, and is dedicated to protecting and celebrating the rich life of the ocean.

“Environment has been a top priority for our cooperation with Ukraine for many years. The EU continues supporting Ukraine on its path, including with our technical assistance which covers areas of waste management, integrated river basin management, water quality management and nature protection,” said Katarina Mathernová, Deputy Director-General for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations at the European Commission.

The day before, on 22 September, Mathernová co-chaired a dialogue on the European Green Deal and Ukraine’s Green Transition. The discussion focused on green transition, environmental governance and financing, climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss.
