On 25 February, the Council of the European Union added the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to the sanctions list.
Putin and Lavrov together with the Members of Russia’s security Council were added to 351 members of the Russian State Duma and 27 other individuals and entities that were listed on 24 February.
“This is an important step,” said EU High Representative Josep Borrell. “The only leaders in the world who are sanctioned by the EU are Assad from Syria, Lukashenko from Belarus and now Vladimir Putin from Russia.”
The EU will also target those in Belarus who collaborate with Russian military aggression against Ukraine.
“We will not stop there. We have adopted the proposal to target all who are significantly providing economic support to the regime,” added Borrell.
