EU Defence Ministers to discuss training mission for Ukrainian army

EU Defence Ministers meeting in Prague today will discuss the idea of setting up a high-level EU training mission for the Ukrainian army, with Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov joining the discussions.

EU High Representative Josep Borrell said he hoped ministers could reach an overall political agreement today. “I hope we will have a green light, a political green light for this mission.”

“We are providing big amounts of military capacity,” he added. “Certainly, Russia will not be happy. They are not happy with the idea that we are providing all kinds of military equipment. And we will continue providing more military equipment. How can we provide military equipment and not military training? What is the difference between the two things?

The key theme of the two-day meeting is the Russian aggression against Ukraine and its impact on the security of EU Member States.
