Support to the development of a Geographical Indications system in Ukraine

Project Description
The EU-funded project "Support to the development of the geographical indications system in Ukraine" supports the drafting of the new legal framework to regulate the geographical indications (GIs) system aligned with the EU acquis, as well as the identification and registration of new Ukrainian geographical indications, and rebranding of sensitive products misusing EU protected names (GIs). Moreover, the Project works on development in Ukraine of a pilot Wine and Taste Route as a tool to enhance a development of rural areas.
Specific Objective
To establish a Ukrainian system of geographical indications for wines, aromatised wines, spirit drinks, agricultural products and foodstuffs
Expected Results
Result 1. Legal framework set-up ensured and administrative capacity strengthened for the development of the Ukrainian system of registration, control and enforcement of the Geographical Indications
Sub-Result 1.2. Alignment and approximation of Ukrainian laws and regulations to those of the EU
Sub-Result 1.2 The capacity of Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food and other relevant Ukrainian authorities including control organization(s) responsible for GIs reinforced and strengthened in order to ensure the implementation and enforcement of Geographical Indications legislation

Result 2. Marketing activities for rebranding, market research, promotion and consultancy activities for sensitive products provided

Result 3. Ukrainian products registered as GIs and available on the market

Result 4. Rural development project planned with the aim to bringing tourism to the regions and launching marketing strategies for new markets
