Women Empower Each Other – You Can Too

On November 3 newly established organization Volunteer Hub, with the partnership of Young European Ambassadors, Forbes Woman Georgia and Bakur Sulakauri publishing, held a women empowerment event „Borderless Opportunities” at Expo Georgia. During the event 15 invited speakers presented their information about studying and working in Europe. The audience of around 400 young individuals was provided with the information about bachelor, master, PhD and non-degree programs, as well as volunteering/traineeship/internship possibilities and various scholarships provided by the European Union and European countries.

“Borderless Opportunities” was aiming women empowerment and their engagement in various social and educational projects in order to show that there are no limit and borders for the education and personal development.

It has to be mentioned that there was a presentation of Bakur Sulakauri Publishing ‘s new book “Women in Battle” by Nini Tavkhelidze, creative director of Volunteer Hub and Marketing Manager at Bakur Sulakauri Publishing.

The founder of the organization Volunteer Hub, Natalia Tchamiashvili explains how the idea of the event was born and accomplished: “The idea of the event was born spontaneously. Our organization has been working for two months and we have been trying our best to address the most important needs of the society. In one of the anonymous groups one girl was writing about her terrible environment and the difficult situation that she had. I decided to help her and shared opportunities about studying and working abroad in order to let her change her reality. Several hours later 30 other women contacted me and asked about the same information. I understood that there are a lot of people willing to take a chance of studying abroad, as well as doing traineeships and internships but there is a lack of information. We created a Facebook group and started spreading the information about those opportunities. More than 3000 women required an approval to join the group. Finally, we decided to plan an event and gather everything and everyone in one space. As a Young European Ambassador I asked my peers and the European Union in Georgia if they could support this event and got a positive reply. We worked hard to make the event useful for the audience and I am very glad to see so many girls empowered, motivated and enthusiastic about their future development.”

The Deputy Chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee at the parliament of Georgia, Nino Goguadze, who was an invited guest to the event made a comment: “The youth of Georgia has unique opportunities to enhance their knowledge at European and American Universities. These opportunities are offered by our partner countries and providing the young people with timely and accurate information about them is very important. I am very glad that young people organized this informational by themselves for their peers and friends in order to help each other get better education and experiences. For me, this generation is a hope for a progress in this country”.

The feedback and response of the audience was very important for organizers. Salome Niauri, who was one of the participants attending the event, shared her impressions: In spite of the fact that I was a member of another NGO, volunteering and sending students abroad, as well as was socially active person in general and had some information about exchange programs, I can confidently say that the event organized by volunteer hub and Young European Ambassadors exceeded my expectations. Lack of information was a barrier for youth to reach their goals, so “Borderless Opportunities” provided the whole audience with enormous information and motivated a lot of ambitious individuals. The speeches of speakers and participants of various programs, who shared their interesting personal experiences and who were aware of difficulties that accompany life changing decisions inspired me a lot to believe that nothing is impossible. As soon as I returned back home, I started looking for some universities and contacted my professors. “Borderless Opportunities” showed me that there are a lot of doors to be open that will lead us to the success and life experiences. After the event I am sure that if a person knows one’s wills and intentions then there are no obstacles that one cannot overcome. This means that we can not only dream but transform our dreams into the goals that we can reach.
