Unite to Fight Violence against Women

Project Description
Project aims at preventing violence against women and girls (VAWG) and domestic violence (DV) and to eliminate its causes and consequences in Georgia by creating an enabling legislative, policy and service delivery environment in line with internationally binding standards on ending VAWG at national and local levels.
Specific Objective
• To create an enabling legislative, policy and service delivery environment in line with internationally binding standards on EVAWG at national and local levels (Guria and Qvemo Qartli regions) in Georgia.
• Generate reliable and comparative data on VAWG by conducting a nation-wide Survey on Violence against Women to inform development and implementation of a Communication Strategy towards ending VAWG and its Action Plan.
• Strengthen capacities of key policy and service delivery institutions to promote and protect women’s human rights to life free from VAWG, including DV by providing support to the relevant government institutions and the Gender Equality Council in the Parliament.
• Provide capacity development interventions to different service providers (State Fund for the Protection and Assistance to the Victims of Human Trafficking, Public Defender’s Office, police, social workers, healthcare workers, prosecutors and lawyers) on ending VAWG and DV.
• Support the GoG to establish two additional crisis centres in the project target regions to prevent the re-occurrence of violence and protecting victims.
• Develop and pilot a rehabilitation programme for the perpetrators of domestic violence and GPS Ankle Bracelets, learning from the best practices available worldwide.
• Support the GoG in the development and implementation of socio-economic rehabilitation programmes for DV victims/survivors.
Expected Results
• Key stakeholders conducted awareness raising, preventive and corrective actions based on reliable data and contributed to increased disclosure and prevention of violence;
• Capacity of key policy and service delivery institutions has bee strengthened to promote and protect women's human rights to life free from VAWG, including DV.
